Weekend Recap: Miles, Rain, and a Really Cute Hat π§’π☔
There’s something oddly therapeutic about a long run in the thick July heat — especially when you’re 13 weeks out from the Chicago Marathon and dead set on getting stronger, not just faster. I knocked out 15 sweaty miles this morning under the Jacksonville sun, clocking in at a relaxed pace of 9:20/mile while dodging puddles and praying my ponytail didn’t snap in half from sheer humidity.
πͺ Distance: 15 miles
π‘️ Temp: 90°F
π Effort: Easy (but my legs would respectfully disagree)
π§ Current running soundtrack: A mix of Girl in Red, Noah Kahan, and questionable 2000s club bangers
Recovery mode looked a lot like:
• Cooling off in front of the fridge
• Swapping out salt tabs for iced coffee
• …and curling up in my new favorite oversized sweatshirt (with wet hair, of course) while a summer thunderstorm rolled through the neighborhood.
The real win of the weekend? I finally snagged the cutest baseball hat that I’ve been eyeing — cream colored, minimalist embroidery, just enough sass. It may or may not be the only thing I wear for the next four months straight. The way it paired with my post-run glow (read: sweat and salt crust)? Immaculate.
Also, I started a new book, which I’m already 100 pages deep into. There’s something indulgent about letting the rain hit the windows while you get pulled into someone else’s story — no pace charts, no Garmin alerts, just vibes.
Tomorrow, I’ll be posting something a little more personal, specifically about Matt. It’s been a minute since I’ve written about us, and this one’s been on my heart for a a few days. Stay tuned. π¬
