Hello Fall Series - What Triggers You
You know what’s super cool about power outages? Absolutely nothing lol our power went out last night which definitely delayed getting dinner started, cleaning house and getting to bed. So there was not a fall series blog installment last night lol my bad! I actually just have one more topic to make a post about before I start a brand new series! This new series is a bit open ended and uses ‘hooks’ in the title so I can’t wait to get started on this one tomorrow! OK so happy Election Day, …. It’s going to be one heckuva day, no matter how you voted. I'm working from home today because of my physical therapy appointment this afternoon, but I think it's worked out perfectly considering the atmosphere at present in society.
I’m doing a midday blog because sometimes I actually have time to write a little bit during the day which helps me clear my head and brings me back into focus. There’s been a lot going on at work again this week and I’m not going to jinx myself by commenting on the workload that I’m currently experiencing lol but some big holiday projects are finally falling into place and I’m super excited to see everything that I have planned start to fit together. Let’s go ahead and jump into todays topic because I actually feel like ranting a bit on this one lol
Laziness and making excuses to me, just go hand-in-hand. No matter what it is, I just can’t stand it when somebody realizes that they need to make a change in their life, try harder, or do something that’s necessary, but either blame silly things, or even worse is when they blame people around them. Just one example of this that’s not work related for a change lol is the yo-yo dieters in my family. I have one side of the family that has always “battled weight issues” and they blame genetics or lack of time to make changes to their lifestyles. I remember one family gathering many years ago, but probably since Matt and I have been married, where one of my cousins was whining about how every holiday season they put on at least 5 pounds and they’ve been talking to their doctor about it and just can’t figure out why they keep getting weight. All while this rant is taking place, her paper plate is folding at both ends being crushed under the weight of her heaping mounds of macaroni and cheese, mash potatoes, Bread, rolls, and fried chicken… the same cousin decided to go to Mexico the following year and get bariatric surgery. Would you be surprised if I told you that she gained all of her weight back and then some? I had two other family members follow suit and do the exact same thing, go to the same doctor in Mexico, and get the same damn procedure and guess what, they’re all gaining their weight back. One of them is now, taking a super dangerous weight loss drug.
Ironically, your stomach is able to stretch and expand, even after it has been reduced down to the a quarter of its size. So weirdly enough, if you don’t do anything to change the habits of what made you overweight, you’re just going to end up right back where you started. If you take weight loss drugs, and still continue with the same eating habits, you’ll eventually gain back your weight once you’ve run out of money to afford this expensive weight loss drugs. It’s just a constant yo-yo cycle and I see it all the time in one side of my family. I shouldn’t get so annoyed by this lol but I do. No, not everybody needs bariatric surgery, and no, you definitely more than likely, do not need to take weight loss drugs. What you need to do, is address what habits and lifestyle things have caused you to gain this much weight and start there. I’ve talked about this until I’m blue in the face to one family member who actually will listen, but even then it’s still an uphill battle.
Let me explain it like this, if you were constantly depriving your body of calories, you’re not doing anything to nourish your muscles. Your body needs muscle mass to burn calories and stay metabolically efficient. Heavily restrictive diets very seldom do anything to nourish your muscle and you consequently reduce your muscle size as a result. So when you do go on an extreme diet, you will definitely at some point start to see something change on the scale but what’s actually happening is you’re losing muscle and your weight loss starts to slow down, down, down, you get discouraged, cheat on whatever popular diet you’re on and suddenly you gain it all back PLUS some because now, your body doesn’t have the same muscle mass as it did before and now you can’t burn calories as efficiently. The carousel of confusion continues…
The weight loss industry pockets, millions of dollars a year off of making, mostly women, insecure, selling the next miracle procedure/pill/injection and profiting off of their stupidity when they just don’t know how body mechanics work.
All of this to say, find a hobby that requires you to be physically active, and stick with it. Find something fun that excites you and make it apart of your lifestyle. Research how to NOURISH your body with the foods it actually needs and watch how your cravings start to dwindle! I’m not joking, the foods you crave could be a cry for help from your system that’s becoming malnourished from the crap food you’re feeding it. Your body loves roasted broccoli lol trust me! When it comes to movement, I don’t approach running as something that I HAVE to do, it’s something that I now get to do! And I love it! On the same side of the family, I very frequently get asked why I love running and hear stuff like “gosh I’d rather die than run.” Or, “you’re lucky that you’re genetically blessed.” When I’m absolutely not. Have you ever crossed the finish line of a race? That euphoria of “wow I can’t believe how bad that hurt and I want to do that shit again!” Have you ever squatted your entire body weight and walked around like Wonder Woman the rest of the day? Movement is empowering! I’ll keep saying this until they put me in the ground, exercise is a celebration of what God made our bodies to do and it is not to be used as a punishment for something that we ate! I think the biggest thing that holds a lot of women back from losing weight is that they view diet and exercise as a punishment of what they eat or a reward system to eat shitty food and they’re also addicted to tons of processed foods and don’t realize they may be severely malnourished of essential vitamins and minerals.
I really need to hang this up or this is just going to have to turn into a YouTube video lol long story short to answer the question, I really hate laziness and excuses in many different areas but most particularly this one because I encounter it so much when I see family. I do understand there are exceptions, especially when I’m coming off of this topic from a tremendous place of privilege. I don’t have kids, I’m not having to feed little tiny mouths and squeeze in time with them rather than prepping healthy food in the kitchen. I get it, life is busy in many different ways. I just don’t think that blaming genetics, chasing after bariatric surgery, or dangerous weight loss drugs is the solution to a tangibly solvable issue that’s within most peoples scope of control. If anybody would like a running buddy, hit me up in a few weeks and I’d be happy to take you on my afternoon Neighborhood jog with me lol I mean it, Hit me up! We will listen to Taylor Swift on my cell phone while we keep at a tempo pace lol
I wonder if I should do a healthy, budget friendly healthy food haul video?… did you know that between my husband and I, we eat mostly at home a good six days out of the week, we eat very healthy with the exception of an occasional splurge, and my average weekly grocery budget is around $108. Eating healthy, and conveniently is definitely possible if you know where to look.
And on that note, I hope everybody has a wonderful election day and actually sleeps tonight. God sits on the throne and He is going to do as he pleases with our country no matter who sits in the oval office. I am more confident of that in this election that I have been in past ones. Be at peace my sisters in Christ.
Have a Runderful Day!
